A local fish and chip shop is helping the homeless by offering a tasty supper this week.
Burton Road Chippy is providing a portion of fish and chips for everyone at Nomad’s night shelter on Monks Road on Friday 1st June – which is also National Fish and Chips Day.
Lesley Graves, owner of Burton Road Chippy, said: “Fish and chips are a natural and nutritious meal, and as it is National Fish and Chip Day on Friday we didn’t want anyone missing out! We know Nomad do incredible work helping and feeding the homeless in our city and wanted to offer our support.”
The chip shop, which was named second best independent fish and chip shop at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2018, supported Nomad during the Knights’ Trail last year too.
Andy Hicks, Deputy Housing Officer, from Nomad, said: “Last year we supported 266 people at our night shelter, and we couldn’t do that without help and compassion from the local community. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Lesley, Des and all at Burton Road Chippy for donating Friday’s meal, and for their ongoing support too.”
Lesley added: “We will also be taking donations for Nomad from our customers on Friday and everyone can enter our competition to win fish and chips too. All you need to do is take a picture with our Knight, which has been turned into a huge collection box and posting it on social media.”
