Tensing

Lincolnshire YMCA Tensing Group

drummerTensing is a performing arts group for teenagers, primarily interested in singing and creating music, based at our Lincoln Centre.

Most YMCAs, both nationally and internationally, have their own Tensing Group. Tensing originated in Norway in 1968 and the name is a combination of the Norwegian "ten" meaning "teen" and the English word "sing".

A primary goal of Tensing is to empower young people by giving them responsibility, developing their skills and strengthening their social networks. The group is run by the members with YMCA staff on hand to help when necessary.

A group from Lincolnshire YMCA Tensing Group travelled to the International Tensing Festival in Aarhus, Denmark where they were able to perform on stage with groups from other countries.
