YMCA175, the YMCA’s global youth event, was a resounding success. Marking the charity’s 175th anniversary in its birthplace of London, the event provided a chance for the whole YMCA family to collaborate.
Over 3,000 delegates from 120 countries attended, making it the biggest YMCA event worldwide. Young people from all over the world got together to learn, connect, celebrate and create, exploring youth issues such as climate change, employment and health over the four days from 4th to 8th August.
Two team members represented YMCA Lincolnshire and thoroughly enjoyed the event, taking along our six-metre-high climbing tower from the Showroom in Lincoln.
The instructors were kept busy while helping to contribute to the fantastic physical activity workshops on offer at the venue’s Health & Wellbeing Space.
Rosie Davidson, Operations Manager at YMCA Lincolnshire, said: “The wall was an important contribution to the Health and Wellbeing Zone, as it gave young people from across the globe the opportunity to try an activity they may not have come across before.
“As well as promoting the benefits of physical activity, we were representing the YMCA on a local scale and were a part of its largest gathering in history.
“It was something we were proud to be asked to be involved in and hopefully it will inspire young people to continue to pursue the activity in their home communities.”
The Health & Wellbeing Space gave young people the chance to push themselves to new heights, offering yoga, volleyball, mental health workshops and more alongside Lincolnshire’s very own climbing wall.
All levels of ability were catered for, encouraging those involved to take part in activities while discovering YMCA’s historical connection to sport and wellbeing.
