Job Purpose

YMCA Lincolnshire is seeking to recruit two Community Development Officers to join our team.  Our Communities team deliver a wide range of exciting projects including Good Neighbours Schemes, Community Connectors, a Dance and health project and a Village Hall support network amongst others.

These new roles will work under the direction of our Communities Manager across one or more of the projects we deliver.  We’re looking for dedicated passionate professionals keen to help us meet our mission of having positive impact on Mind, Body and Spirit.

Job Description

  • Take responsibility for delivery of all aspects of Community Development project(s) under the direction of the Communities Manager, adopting a flexible approach to focus on one or more projects at a time.
  • Support delivery of the outcomes of the YMCA Lincolnshire Community Development Strategy.
  • Ensure that our suite of projects fully engages with individuals and communities, in particular those that are harder to reach, using this engagement to inform service delivery so that services are co-designed and co-produced with beneficiaries.
  • Identify and remove barriers in relation to engaging people in a local setting.
  • Take a proactive approach to championing intergenerational and inclusive approaches
  • Ensure legacy, sustainability and resilience planning is a key part of all projects.
  • Support the Communities Manager and Bid Writer in the development of new project ideas, contributing information and ideas to funding bids as requested.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrable paid or unpaid experience of working with communities and/or community groups.
  • Ability to relate to people from a wide range of backgrounds, with the skills to motivate and encourage them to take action.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable adults.
  • An understanding of the challenges facing communities and an ability to apply that knowledge across Lincolnshire.
  • An understanding of the challenges of rural living and an ability to apply that knowledge across in Lincolnshire.

Competencies and Qualifications

  • Skilled in the use of the Asset Based Community Development process and methods by which to identify community assets, needs, opportunities and responsibilities.
  • Confidence in working ‘on the ground’ in the community.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal alongside confidence, ability and experience in marketing projects.
  • A patient and diplomatic nature, with an ability to work both in a team and on own initiative.
  • Ability to identify vulnerable adults at risk and understanding of the statutory mechanisms in place to protect vulnerable people.
  • Highly energised and motivated, high level of commitment and passionate about achieving a sustainable legacy for Lincolnshire YMCA.
