Job Title: Community Development Officer

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £23,490

Location: YMCA Sleaford and Lincoln Offices. Regular travel required across Lincolnshire

Job Purpose:

YMCA Lincolnshire delivers a full Community Development service through our Communities team.  Our work involves direct project delivery to have a positive impact on wellbeing, loneliness, isolation and rurality.  The Community Development Officer will work across a range of existing and new projects, taking responsibility for meeting outcomes of a variety of funders needs. There will be a particular focus on developing community resilience in rural areas and supporting a countywide network of community buildings and village halls.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for delivery of all aspects of Community Development project(s) under the direction of the Communities Manager, adopting a flexible approach to focus on one or more projects at a time.

  • Support delivery of the outcomes of the YMCA Lincolnshire Community Development Strategy.

  • Ensure that our suite of projects fully engages with individuals and communities, in particular those that are harder to reach, using this engagement to inform service delivery so that services are co-designed and co-produced with beneficiaries.

  • Help to develop programmes that maximise use of community assets, particularly in rural areas.

  • Identify and remove barriers in relation to engaging people in a local/rural setting.

  • Take a proactive approach to championing intergenerational and inclusive approaches.

Person Specification:

  • Demonstrable paid or unpaid experience of working with communities and/or community groups.

  • Ability to relate to people from a wide range of backgrounds, with the skills to motivate and encourage them to take action.

  • An understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable adults.

  • An understanding of the challenges facing communities and an ability to apply that knowledge across Lincolnshire.

  • An understanding of the challenges of rural living and an ability to apply that knowledge across Lincolnshire.

  • Knowledge/understanding of the role that community buildings play in rural settings and an ability to help them thrive.
