Salary: £22,500.00 to £26,000.00 /year

Job Purpose

This role is funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund and is part of the Building Better Opportunities funding.

To support, develop and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfil their academic potential, and move towards employment where appropriate. To be carried out primarily with YMCA Lincolnshire Hostel residents.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences in line with project requirements and objectives
  • develop schemes of work and lesson plans to achieve required project outlines
  • identify residents in need of intervention from drug/alcohol abuse
  • support identified residents into training/personal development
  • signpost residents in need of support to appropriate services with the support of the Housing Services Manager.
  • provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
  • instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and required equipment
  • use relevant technology to support instruction
  • observe and evaluate student’s performance and development
  • assign and assess any class work, homework, tests and assignments set
  • provide appropriate feedback on completed work
  • encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
  • update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and project requirements
  • prepare required reports on students and activities
  • manage student behaviour in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the centre
  • apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary
  • perform certain pastoral duties including but not limited to student support, counselling students with academic problems and providing student encouragement
  • communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  • support in teaching/assessing of fitness students where possible
  • Any other reasonable responsibility

Scope and Limits of Authority

The post holder will be primarily based in the hostel, responsible for facilitating student’s development and ensuring student safety while attending training, under the supervision of the Training Manager and Housing Services Manager.

You will be expected to control day to day activities, ensuring that all activities are undertaken safely and securely.

Person Specification

Knowledge and experience of relevant subject areas

Experience of working with individuals not in employment, education or training

Ability to motivate, engage and improve self-confidence in students

Skills and Abilities

Friendly, supportive and motivational personality that inspires learners to develop their full potential

Experience of working with individuals with high social needs

Level 3 First Aid and Health and Safety (or willing to undergo training)

Level 3 PTLLS or equivalent with relevant teaching experience for this demographic

Good organisation skills, and can work towards deadlines

G.C.S.E. English and Mathematics at A*-C level

Experience of conducting Initial Assessments and Functional Skills teaching and assessments
