Creating Brighter Futures Across the County – YMCA Lincolnshire’s Rural Youth Clubs

In the quiet corners of Lincolnshire, something powerful is happening. Where once there were few options for young people after school, now there are safe, welcoming spaces full of energy, creativity and connection. YMCA Lincolnshire’s Rural Youth Clubs have been transforming lives in some of the county’s most isolated communities – and it all started with one simple idea: if young people can’t come to us, we’ll go to them.

A Lifeline for Rural Young People

For many villages across Lincolnshire, our Rural Youth Clubs are the only youth provision available. Transport, cost and accessibility can all be significant barriers – especially in rural areas – but our mobile, community-first model breaks those barriers down. We bring youth services directly into the heart of the communities that need them most, ensuring that no young person is left behind because of geography.

Since launching in June 2023, our clubs have supported over 4,950 young people, offering weekly sessions filled with fun, friendship, and opportunity. Whether it’s arts and crafts, sports, or simply a space to chill out and be themselves, our sessions are designed to build confidence, develop skills, and provide access to trusted adult support.

It All Began in Louth…

Our journey began when the trustees of Louth Youth and Community Centre approached us, following a recommendation from council youth worker, Viv Cross. The centre had hosted a youth club for years, but it had been dormant for nearly a decade. Thanks to funding secured by the trustees, YMCA Lincolnshire was able to relaunch the club in June 2023.

At first, just a handful of young people attended. A leaflet drop helped spread the word, but the game-changer came when we partnered with local schools to offer free parkour sessions. These high-energy taster days brought excitement and visibility to the youth club – and soon, attendance grew to 30 - 40 young people each week, where it remains today.

Growing a Movement

Inspired by the success in Louth, other communities reached out. In October 2024, Old Leake and Pinchbeck launched their own clubs. Old Leake now welcomes around 20 young people each Monday, while Pinchbeck, meeting once a month, sees a remarkable 50-70 young people each session. Gosberton followed in February 2025, running twice monthly on Fridays.

Each club has been made possible thanks to the dedication of local trustees, parish councils, and our incredible volunteers. These community champions have fundraised, applied for grants, and donated their time to ensure local young people have a place to feel safe, valued, and inspired.

National Recognition – And Your Support Matters

We’re proud to share that our Rural Youth Clubs have been shortlisted as finalists for the Family and Youth Project of the Year at the Youth Matters Awards – a national celebration of outstanding youth work. This nomination is a testament to the commitment, compassion, and innovation that fuels everything we do.
